Dynamic Bike Fit
Every bike fit begins with the rider. I will do a rider assessment to better understand your goals, injury history, and any other concerns you may have. Then, we will go through a complete functional movement assessment. This will include a series of tests to check for weaknesses or imbalances you have off of the bike. I will then document your body measurements and your current bike measurements. After this, we move on to the bike analysis. I view the rider from the drive side, non-drive side, anterior view, and posterior view. I use 3D motion capture and saddle pressure mapping as powerful visuals for the rider to understand how each change we make affects their body. I also will transfer your fit coordinates to my Purely Custom fit bike so that we can make instantaneous changes to bike position without you having to come on and off the bike. We also can quickly trial different crank lengths, saddles, and handlebar widths on the fit bike. Once we have determined your new fit coordinates, I will provide a post fit report with all of the changes we have made. If new equipment is required I will work with you to find parts that fit your budget. Please keep in mind that any parts or equipment are separate charges and not included in the price of the fit. Any mechanical work completed by Village Bicycles is charged separately.
Cost: $350 - 3 Hours (additionally includes free 1 hour follow-up within 90 days)
CFD Aero Testing
Computational Fluid Dynamics is a highly time efficient and accurate method to test for how changes to rider position affect drag. I have partnered with AiRO, who have revolutionized the ability to quickly and affordably test aerodynamics without a trip to the wind tunnel or outdoor testing. This software has been validated at The A2 Wind Tunnel (read more). This service is best done after a dynamic bike fit, when a rider has already discovered their most effective position. I have been trained to scan a virtual twin of the rider into AiRO software, and then complete a series of virtual wind tunnel runs to determine what position best balances comfort, power, and aerodynamics. Not only can we tweak positioning, but the software also provides a large selection of the most established aero helmets on the market if you are unsure of which aero helmet compliments your position the best. The average watt savings a rider will save is 26 watts, but this of course depends on how refined your current position is.
Cost: $200 - 1 Hour (10 test runs)
Field Aero Testing
It does not matter how good you look on the stationary trainer if you cannot hold your position outdoors in real world conditions. I use the GiBLI G10 aero sensor, and have been trained by Jim Manton of ERO Sports on how to conduct accurate testing. This sensor has been validated at The Silverstone Wind Tunnel (read more). I attach the sensor to your bike and provide dual sided power meter pedals for Look/Keo, Shimano and Wahoo cleat interfaces to pair with the G10 for accurate testing results. I conduct test runs at The Dismal Swamp Canal Trail in Chesapeake. Not only does it provide a flat and smooth profile, it is closed to traffic so that riders do not have to worry about vehicles when they are testing new positions & equipment. Currently CFD testing does not support the testing of different fabrics (suits, sleeves, overshoes, etc.), or hydration positioning. Field testing can confirm CFD results, but can also allow us to test variables that CFD does not currently support. I highly recommend that you have had a professional bike fit no more than a year before testing. If your position is not optimized, then you will not get the full benefit out of this service. A consultation is required before testing in order to determine what variables are most important for testing. Most sessions take around two hours. The majority of athletes cannot handle more time than this due to fatigue, but if you are a highly trained athlete then we can discuss three hours. Also, please keep in mind that sometimes we will have to re-schedule due to inclement weather. The G10 is not waterproof, and if there is forecasted rain, I will work with you to re-schedule for the earliest next available appointment slot.
Cost: $400 - 2 Hours ($350 as a follow up to a dynamic bike fit)
Cost: $550 - 3 Hours ($500 as a follow up to a dynamic bike fit)
The "F1" Package
This is for the rider that wants to bundle a dynamic bike fit, CFD, and field aero testing. This service is recommended for riders that want to be as efficient as possible. Essentially, we analyze everything for this service and document all of the results as we continue to test what makes you as fast and comfortable as possible.
